Snow and Ice are Coming: Safe Driving Tips for Kansas and Missouri Motorists

Kansas and Missouri saw its first snow fall over the weekend.  It wasn't enough to make the roads too much of a problem but we know that snow and ice can play havoc for motorists if you aren't careful.   The Missouri Department of Transportation has issued safe tips to help area drivers get read for the winter driving, if you haven't already.

Prepare in advance by winterizing your vehicle:
  • making sure your car has fresh oil and antifreeze
  • have all systems check to ensure they are working including your battery, tires and wind shield wipers.
  • Always make sure you have plenty of gas for your trip in case you get stranded or stuck in traffic.

Stock up!:

  • flashlight and extra batteries
  • first-aid kit
  • cold weather gear (blankets, hats gloves, etc.)
  • a bag of sand to use for traction in case you become stuck
  • small shovel
  • bottled water.

When driving:

  • obey speed limits and slow down when necessary
  • give other vehicles, including snow plows plenty of room.

First and foremost, ALWAYS WEAR YOUR SEAT BELT.
