Trucking Accident Kills 1-year-old, Injures Two Others

Four miles east of Emporia was the scene of an accident involving a van and a semi on Friday.  A woman driving her van eastbound on U.S. 50 was attempting to make a lefthand turn when she was hit by a semi.  The tractor-trailer was passing another semi on the right as the first semi was also turning left at that intersection.

A 1-year-old child was taken to Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City for treatment but later died.  A 2-year-old child was also treated at Children's Mercy.  The mother was taken to Newman Regional Health in Emporia for her injuries.  Neither of the truck drivers were injured.

Trucking accidents are often fatal, but ususally to the drivers and passengers of the other vehicles.  The size and heighth of a tractor-trailer offers the driver extra protection in an accident.  At Roswold Law Group Kansas City Accident Injury Attorneys we are concerned about the Kansas Highway Patrol's report that the semi driver was passing along the r ight of another tractor-trailer because visibility with a tractor-trailer in front of you is obviously limited and the van driver was probably unable to see the second oncoming semi.  Unfortunately, in this case, the results were deadly.
