Two area children have died recently in apparent
drowning accidents in the Kansas City metro area over the past few weeks. The first, was a 6-year old Olathe boy who was reported missing near 158th and Lindenwood Drive. Police began a search of the area and later found the child in a partially drained pool.

Tuesday evening in Kansas City, Missouri emergency crews were called to a home near 66th and Wyoming because a two-year old boy had been found submerged in a pool by one of his siblings. In both cases first responders attempted CPR, then sent the children to area hospitals where both were pronounced dead.
The lawyers at

With these recent drownings this is a good time to learn more about pool safety. First, there are nearly 300 deaths of children under five due to drowning in swimming pools and spas and there are more than 3,200 children that experience submersion injuries. How can we protect our Kansas and Missouri children?
- Learn how to swim and teach your children how to swim
- Know basic water safety skills, such as CPR
- Install fences and other barriers around pools
- Use pool alarms and covers
While these basic suggestions won't prevent every accident, they can certain help keep our Kansas City children a little safer.
