At Roswold Law Group, we know protecting a child is a parents number one priority; in most cases anyway. We aren't saying that some parents don't care about their kids, just that some are confused as to what is the proper age to leave their kids alone for any time, much less extended time periods.
A Kansas City mother is being accused of neglect and child endangerment for leaving her 2 year-old twin daughters alone at an extended stay hotel in Lenexa, Kansas. The woman was reported after other guests complained to hotel staff they could hear the children and thought they might be alone. When the cleaning staff entered they found the girls, hungry and in desperate need of diaper changes.
Apparently this isn't the first time she has left these kids alone. The hotel management has already spoken to the woman about a previous incident but the mother explained there was a lack of communication with a baby sitter.
Our experienced Kansas City Child Accident and Injury Lawyers would like to remind all parents in Kansas and Missouri to think twice about leaving your child alone. If your child can't take care of themselves, then obviously they need supervision.
So what is the proper age to leave a child to take care of themselves? There really is no exact answer. But the short answer is right there; WHEN they can take care of themselves. Two year-olds don't match this criterea. A responsible child is one who can take care of all needs on a minimal basis, this includes getting food and/or drink for themselves, can use the bathroom without assistance, knows how to handle minor emergencies if they arise and knows who to call if and when they need something.
If you know a child who is living in a dangerous situation in Missouri or Kansas, contact the Kansas City Personal Injury Attorneys of Roswold Law Group immediately.
