Urban Community Violence A Leading Cause of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). Kansas City, Missouri Residents Not Immune

Violence has grown to be the leading cause of traumatic brain injury (TBI) and traumatic brain injury (TBI) deaths in urban areas. Assault, attempted suicides, domestic abuse, and bullet wounds are some causes of traumatic brain injury. Statistics show that almost 80% of people with violent TBI's have had a history of drug abuse. CDC's jail and prison studies shows 87% of prisoners have reported to have a Traumatic Brain Injury at some point. As evident from the daily Kansas City news, Kansas City, Missouri and Kansas City, Kansas both have their fair share of violence every year, including assault, suicide, adult and child abuse, and shootings, suggesting that these findings linking violence closely to traumatic brain injury (TBI) have significant implications for Kansas City metro area residents.
