Was Marijuana the Cause of Crossover Crash that Killed Two Eudora, KS. Residents?

At Roswold Law Group, we talk a lot about the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol but today, we are reminded that alcohol isn't the only "drug" that can cause a serious injury accident or fatality.  Over the weekend, a fatal crash on Highway 10 near Eudora, Kansas got a lot of attention and has many people questioning whether the highway hitself is dangerous-- but now, other factors are being considered.

In the crash, a 24 year-old driver lost control of his vehicle, crossed over into the other lanes and crashed into a van carrying four passengers.  The 24 year-old driver was killed instantly.  The passengerous of the van, including a 5 year-old child, a 23 month-old child and two adults were rushed to a hospital.  The five year-old child was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash, but one thing they do know already is the 24 year-old driver that allegedly caused the accident has tested positive for marijuana in a preliminary autopsy.  Invetigators will now work to determine if the drug was a factor in the fatal highway crash.

We know the dangers that can unfold when a driver loses control even for a moment on the highway. You can avoid accidents like this by putting away any distractions that may cause you to lose focus of the road and other vehicles in front of you.  Highway driving can be dangerous enough without allowing illegal drugs to be a factor.  Marijuana can cauase side effects that can lead to drowsy driving, slower reflexes and reaction time-- or just allowing the user to zone out while driving.

Our experienced Kansas City Auto Injury Attorneys would like to extend our deepest sympathies to friends and families of the victims involved in this accident and hope in the future all motorists practice safe and attentive driving techniques to ensure the safety of everyone on the highways of Kansas and Missouri.
