What are the Main Causes of Distracted Driving in Missouri? Are Texting Bans Working?

At Roswold Law Group, we are well aware that distracted driving is the number one cause of nearly all car accidents in Kansas and Missouri.  We just wish motorists would get the hint and put aside distractions when they drive.

Check out our informative library article, "Who is Texting Behind the Wheel in Kansas City?".

Today, there was an article in the Kansas City Star today listed the top distractions for drivers in Missouri in 2009 who have been involved in car accidents.

The Top Causes of Distracted Driving Crashes in Missouri (and number of crashes):

  1. Cell Phones (1,783)
  2. Passengers (1,042)
  3. Audio/Video Equipment (702)
  4. Eating and/or Drinking (488)
  5. Tobacco Use (212)
  6. Computer Equipment (120)

Even though these stats are glaringly obvious, there are some people, including U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood thinks these studies are overlooking situations where bans have decreased distracted driving accidents.  Only three of 38 states that have texting bans have seen an increase in accidents since the bans went into affect.

As experienced Kansas City Auto Accident and Injury Lawyers would like to encourage lawmakers to continue to turn the screws on those that wish to be a dangerous driver and those who don't seem to respect other drivers.  Too many drivers today think it will never happen to them but even the most experienced drivers sometimes find themselves in a situation where something happens on the road and they have to act quickly.  It takes an attentive driver to avoid a serious injury if the accident is unavoidable and that means leaving the cell phone in your pocket or purse if necessary.

If you or someone a you love has suffered a serious injury in an auto accident caused by distracted driver in Kansas or Missouri, you may be entitled to compensation for your losses.  Don't try and take on the insurance companies alone, contact the Kansas City Personal Injury Lawyers of Roswold Law Group.  With over 15 years of experience in Auto Injury Accident cases, we might be able to help your family through this difficult time.  Call our office today to set up your free consultation.
