Work Zone Awareness Week - MODOT Says Being Careful Can Prevent Serious Car Accident Injuries and Death in Missouri

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) is using Work Zone Awareness Week to prepare Missouri drivers for the extensive road construction taking place all over the metro area.   MoDOT reported that over the last decade 15 workers lost their lives in work zone accidents in Missouri.  In 2009, 13 people died in work zones. Kansas City area drivers are well advised to take heed of these fatality statistics and use extra caution to save workers lives and their own. 

This construction season is one of the busiest our area has seen in years due to the extrememly harsh winter weather and the damage to area roadways.  MODOT wants all drivers to pay close attention when traveling through work zones.  Obeying the speed limits, paying attention to lane changes within the construction zones, and staying off cell phones are all key factors in safe driving through these areas.
