What is the spinal cord?
The spinal cord is about 18" long. The spinal cord is a part of the nervous system. It extends from the base of the brain to approximately the waist. Nerves called lower motor neurons branch out from the spinal cord to other parts of the body. These spinal nerves (LMN'S) both exit and enter at every vertebral level and these are the nerves that send messages to other parts of the body.
