Missouri Car Crash Fires, Part 3: Treatment of Burn Injuries

The Ford Motor Company has announced the recall of 3,000 2007 Ford Five Hundred and Mercury Montego sedans to repair a fuel tank that could cause a car fire in a Missouri car wreck.

The vehicles have bad welds where the fuel filler neck meets the fuel tank, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website warns that in a severe rear impact, the bad weld may fail and cause a fire.

About 266,000 car fires happen each year. Most of these fires occur because of car defects or poor maintenance. About one-quarter of car fires are caused solely by accidents. But, burn injuries from car fires are among the most devastating and the most costly of car crash injuries.

After a severe burn injury, the accident victim requires immediate care. But, the victim may also need long-term treatment and rehabilitation to recover. Because burns can cause extensive scarring and disfiguration, victims may require reconstructive plastic surgery.

Treatment is expensive, and the victim may be unable to work for an extended period of time. One can't rely on health insurance; many health insurance companies put a cap on the amount of treatment they will cover.

If you sustained burn injuries in a Missouri car crash that was not your fault, you may be able to get compensation for your medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering. Our accident injury lawyers in Kansas City may be able to obtain compensation from your insurance provider, the other driver's insurance provider, the person responsible for the accident, the manufacturer of your vehicle, or from Worker's Compensation (if you were working at the time).

Our experienced accident injury lawyers in Kansas City can tell you if you have a Missouri personal injury claim.
