Depending on the location of the injury, the victim might lose use of his lower body and legs (paraplegia) or of most of the body including arms and legs (quadriplegia).

Motorcycle wreck victims who suffer a spinal cord injury may have additional medical complications such as chronic pain, bladder dysfunction, respiratory difficulties and an increased risk of heart problems.
