In a road rage incident, a minor issue can quickly escalate into a major problem. Simple traffic stresses can suddenly turn into a violent attack on Kansas City roads, causing the victims of road rage serious injury and possibly even death. How can you prevent becoming a victim of Kansas City road rage? To be clear, sometimes there is nothing you can do to prevent an attack on the part of an aggressive driver. Sometimes another driver is determined to inflict harm and there is little you can do about it. However, some tips can help keep you safe when you are dealing with a potential road rage situation. 1. Leave a wide berth around yourself and other drivers. Sometimes in a hurry you may inadvertently tailgate or get too close, triggering an already stressed and anxious person into a road rage attack. When you pull up to an intersection to stop, give plenty of space to other motorists. 2. If you are in bumper-to-bumper traffic, resist the urge to push your way further down the road, weaving in and out of traffic. You are only going to make it worse for yourself and other drivers, and it is not going to get you where you want to go any faster. 3. If you do get into a confrontation, try not to look at the other driver. Avoid eye contact if you can. Simply move along and do nothing to further provoke the situation. 4. If you already have the attention of an aggressive driver, avoid any actions that may be deemed as aggressive. This means try to avoid sudden braking or rapid acceleration. These actions may be seen as answering back with aggression, even if they were not meant that way. 5. If you are being targeted by road rage, drive to a police station in order to get help. Do not pull off the road and try to talk to the other driver. 6. If the confrontation escalates and you are stopped in traffic, keep your doors locked. Call attention to your vehicle by blaring your horn if someone attempts to assault you or get into your car. 7. Safely use your cell phone to call 911. Try to think through situations that may lead to confrontation and have a plan to react non-aggressively. If you are in a road rage incident and you sustain injuries from the other driver, you may have questions about who will pay your medical expenses.
