SIDS and the DTaP Vaccine

Every year, thousands of infants die in the United States, and the reason given for death is Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). SIDS is not a condition or a disease, but a conclusion given when the circumstances surrounding the death do not point to a conclusive cause.
Questions have been raised over the years over one possible cause or another, including the timing of some recommended vaccinations given to small babies. Among these vaccines are the combination DTAP vaccine, or the Diphtheria-Tetanus-Pertussis vaccine.
The question over the vaccine’s safety began when researchers began noting the coincidence in timing between the most common age at which little one were at highest risk to die from SIDS and the recommended age for the DTAP vaccine. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends several doses of this and other vaccines while infants are quite young. Is there a link between the timing of the vaccine schedule and the high-risk age group for SIDS.
The high risk age for SIDS peaks between 2 and 4 months old. Recommended vaccines including DTAP are given 7 times in the first year. Researchers were looking for proof to determine if the instances of SIDS were tied to the administration of the vaccines, or just coincidence.
For now, no link was conclusively found. Researchers cannot say that there is enough evidence in some cases to draw a definitive link between the vaccines and infant death. Other data suggested absolutely no link.
