Uninsured Drivers: Are you or a loved one a victim of....
Uninsured Drivers Are An Increasing Problem
In this era of economic recession, research shows that the number of insured drivers out on the American roads, including Missouri and Kansas, is on the rise. Studies show that the number of uninsured drivers is, in fact, directly related to the unemployment rate. Driving without insurance puts the person without the insurance as well as other drivers in serious financial risk. According to research done by the Insurance Research Council, the projected percentage of uninsured drivers is high: 14% in Missouri and 10% in Kansas.
Typically when an automobile accident occurs, the drivers involved exchange insurance information, sometimes the companies conduct investigations, and the injured party has a claim against the party at fault for his injuries and damages, which claim is defended and paid by the insurance company through settlement or litigation if necessary. The injured party’s damages, including but not limited to medical bills, can be significant financial sums.
When a driver at fault for a serious motor vehicle collision does not have automobile liability insurance, the driver has no coverage for the injuries and damages he or she has caused in the accident. In some cases, compensation for injuries and damages caused by the accident may be recovered against driver’s personal assets. In other instances, the driver’s license may be revoked or not allowed for renewal until the injured party is fairly and properly compensated. Being forced into bankruptcy also commonly occurs for uninsured drivers that are unable to compensate injured parties. Depending on the circumstances of the collision, the injured party may or may not be able to recover a judgment in the event that bankruptcy is taken by the uninsured driver.
If you are an uninsured driver, getting some form of liability insurance is recommended as an urgent priority. Not only is driving without insurance against the law and likely to have serious consequences upon your driving privileges but the astronomical risk to both you and other drivers is simply not worth driving without insurance. There are many providers of such insurance coverage and careful research is vital to finding the carrier that is right for you.
