Hypoxia

Hypoxia

Hypoxia is a deprivation of oxygen. It can involving the body as a whole or a region of the body and happens with obstructed or stopped breathing and inadequate blood flow to provide cells with oxygen. People can experience a form of mild generalized hypoxia at high altitude. Hypoxia during the birthing process is one of the more common causes of fetal brain injury. The younger the person generally the more serious are the effects of Hypoxia. Severe hypoxia causes a blue discoloration of the skin known as cyanosis. It has been established that those who have suffered hypoxia during the birthing process are more likely to experience mental health issues later on in their life.

What Causes hypoxia?

Some of the most common causes of hypoxia are strangulation, choking, cardiac arrest, poisoning by carbon monoxide, anesthesia complications, and birthing complications.

What Are The Symptoms Of Hypoxia?

Some of the more common symptoms of hypoxia include headaches, lack of judgment, loss of memory, fatigue, euphoric feelings, shortness of breath, nausea, seizures and death.

What Is The Long-Term Outcome Following Hypoxia?

The length of time that the brain has suffered a deprivation of oxygen and the extent of the damage that has occurred are significant factors that are indicative of the likelihood of long-term and/or serious injury due to hypoxia.
