Seven accidents commonly covered by Kansas City Worker’s compensation
Compensable claims are Workers’ Compensation injury claims where an employee’s injuries were severe enough that the employee had to take time off from work to recover, had to change to a different type of job, or was permanently disabled and unable to earn a living.
A recent study done in Washington State of Workers’ Compensation claims found that more than 95% of claims are for just seven types of accidents that cause “compensable” claims that involve serious injuries to employees.
The seven types of accidents that cause compensable injuries include:
1.Caught in/caught under/ caught between – In these accidents a part of the body is squeezed, crushed or pinched by equipment or machinery.
2.Falls from elevation - These accidents include falls from ladders, roofs, scaffolding and other elevated surfaces.
3.Falls at the same level – These accidents involve a slip and fall, trip and fall, or other fall on a flat surface. They are often due to uneven surfaces, equipment that is not put away, or debris that has not been cleaned up.
4.Struck by / against – In these accidents there is an impact as a part of the body hits against something or is hit by a moving object, or loud noise.
5.Motor vehicle accidents – These motor vehicle accidents occur while the employee is on the job.
6.Work-related musculoskeletal disorders of the lower extremities – This includes all work-related injuries to the hips, legs, knees, ankles and feet caused from overexertion, kneeling, squatting or other repetitive motion.
7.Work-related musculoskeletal injuries of the upper body – These accidents include injuries to the neck, back, shoulders, arms and hands caused from overexertion, repetitive motion, awkward posture, pinching, gripping or vibration.
The report also looked at which types of injuries were most common in which types of occupations. It is not surprising that construction site workers were at high risk for all types of injuries.
