Why Handling Your Own Case Is A Bad Idea

Although you may have an understanding of what you would like to accomplish, handling a legal claim involving significant personal injuries is not something that is a do it yourself project. Unlike the home improvement project, you can't do it over if the result is not what you had wanted or expected.

It is important to keep in mind that the insurance adjuster on the other side of the claim is trained in handling and evaluating personal injury claims on behalf of the insurance company. If you do not have such training or experience, you will be at a disadvantage if you try and resolve the claim without the assistance of an attorney.

You may also be at a disadvantage if you attempt to resolve your claim without knowing for example the obligations you may have with regard to reimbursing your medical insurance company for the medical bills it has paid in connection with accident.

You should be aware that if your medical bills were paid by the health insurance of an employer's health plan, the health insurance company or plan often seeks to be reimbursed for such payments out of any personal injury recovery you make. This area of the law is known as "reimbursement or subrogation" and can be quite complicated.
