Calhoun County, Mississippi was the scene of a fatal accident involving a big rig truck and two school buses. The accident happened on Highway 8 just south of Calhoun City on Tuesday February 8, 2011. According to Mississippi police, the semi-truck side swiped one of the school buses and collided head on with the second. Three people were killed in the accident which also sent seventeen children to the hospital with serious but non life-threatening injuries.
The buses were registered with Choctaw County and were transporting 60 children from a field trip at the University of Mississippi. Two teachers, 37 year-old Steven Moss and 54 year-old Phyllis Graham were killed in the accident. Moss is reported to have been driving one of the school buses.
The accident also claimed the life of the truck driver, identified as George T. Bailey. There was no indication as to what caused the truck to lose control and cause the collision.
