Amusement Park Safety an Issue after 11 yr-old Girl Killed in Ferris Wheel Accident

In Wildwood, New Jersey, an 11 year-old girl has died after falling from a Ferris wheel on Friday June 3, 2011 at Morey's Mariner's Landing Pier. Witnesses report the girl may have passed out, causing her to fall from the bucket while it was in motion and land in the passenger loading area.

According to local Police there is no reason at this time to believe the girl was pushed or that she may have jumped from the ride.

"Thus far there has been no indication of mechanical or operational failure, but the investigation is on-going, and when we have more information, we will report that," Will Morey, President of Morey's Piers said of the tragic and fatal accident.

The Wildwood Police and the NJ Department of Community Affairs and their Division of Codes and Standards are investigating the accident.
