Are Kansas City TBI victims at risk of Lou Gehrig's Disease?

The relationship between head injuries and the development of serious brain illness is now being linked, thanks to the work of Dr. Ann McKee, a neurology professor at the Boston University, who has been conducting research in an attempt to connect head trauma and traumatic brain injury to serious brain illnesses such as Lou Gehrig's disease.  Gehrig died at the age of 36 because of ALS and it is now believed that it has everything to do with the fact he suffered at least 6 known concussions in his career and that he never took any time off to recover after the injuries.

Dr.  McKee's work has revealed that in rare cases the toxic proteins slip through the brain membranes and enter the spinal chord, the controlling channels for all organ functions.  These slippages are leading to the serious illnesses such as ALS and other brain crippling diseases.
