Athlete from NWMS killed in auto accident in rural Missouri

An athlete from Northwest Missouri State was killed in a single car accident Thursday night when the vehicle he was a passenger in lost control of the car and hit a tree.  According to police, the crash was caused when the driver began to veer off the road and over corrected.  The vehicle lost control and rolled.  The passenger, Waylon Martensen and the unidentified driver were both ejected from the vehicle during the collision.  Martensen, 19, a distance runner from NWMSU, was pronounced dead at the hospital soon after after arrival.  Neither Martensen nor the driver of the vehicle were wearing their seat belt at the time of the crash.
