Babysitter in Chicago Fractures Nine-Month Old Infant's Skull

Every parent's worst nightmare came true in Chicago on January 26th.  A nine-month old little girl was found in critical condition. It is suspected that her babysitter may have harmed her to the point of fracturing her skull.  As as result of this trauma, the young infant also suffered from "blood on the brain."  Both medical conditions could potentially result in severe damage and developmental stunting of the young child's brain.  The baby girl was immediately transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, California.  However, there is no word on her current condition.

Calumet Area detectives are pursuing the babysitter.  Twenty-four year old Abagail Cihak is the primary suspect.  Later in the day on Thursday, Cihak was found and charged with aggravated battery to a child. 

At first, it was not clear how the infant's injury had occurred, but later officials were able to determine a probable cause of injury. 

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, 93% of infant homicides are committed by caretakers, and are typically occur as a result of irrational behavior and reactions.
