Baseball Fan Dies after Falling out of Stands at Texas Rangers Game

Tragedy struck at the Ballpark in Arlington, Texas last week when a 27 year-old man fell out of the stands while attempting to catch a ball being thrown to him by one of the players. The accident happened on Thursday July 7, 2011 in the second inning of a game between the Texas Rangers and the Oakland Athletics.

Reports indicate the man, identified as Shannon Stone, was with is son, at a rail, twenty feet above the playing field when Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton tossed a foul ball that had bounced out of the stands up to Stone. The man leaned over the railing to grab the ball and fell.

He suffered critical head injuries and ended up dying from the catastrophic injuries.

"We had a very tragic accident tonight and one of our fans lost their life reaching over the rail trying to get a ball," team president Nolan Ryan said. "As an organization, and as our team members and our staff, we're very heavy-hearted about this, and our thoughts and prayers go out to the family."
