Big Rig Fire Along I-70 Near Turnpike Delays Traffic

Eastbound I-70 near the Turnpike was reduced to one lane Monday afternoon due to a fire in the trailer of a semi hauling leather goods. Firefighters from Fairmount and Stranger townships in Leavenworth county responded to the scene. The driver of the semi was able to disengage his truck from the trailer and move it to safety, while crews worked to extinguish the fire in the trailer. No injuries were reported. Delays were also reported in the westbound lanes and traffic was backed up as far as the Tonganoxie interchange at milemarker 212.
