A man and a child were injured when the motorcycle they were riding on was hit by a truck at a rural Topeka intersection on Monday. The accident happened around 6 p.m. on Monday at 29th and Paulen Road. Police say the motorcycle carrying the man and his son were traveling west on 29th when they slowed at the intersection to turn south. The truck, approaching from the opposite direction, stopped at the intersection but failed to yield the motorcycle's right of way and collided with the truck.
The boy suffered a broken leg, while the adult male driving the bike was treated for an arm injury. They were both wearing helmets at the time of the crash.
"It was a low-speed impact, but as we all know, any time you have a vehicle versus a motorcycle, it doesn't take much speed to accrue injuries," Shawnee County Sheriff's Office Cpl. Kelly Jordan said. "Full attention needs to be given to the roadway at all times."
