Chili's Under Investigation after Accidentally Serving Alcohol to Children

A Colorado family was horrified after a recent visit to a local Chili's restaurant, where their three children were accidentally served alcohol in fruit smoothees. The child injury accident situation happened at a location in Longmont, Colorado on the 4th of July.  A mother and her three children, all aged 8 and under stopped in for a snack and ordered fruit smoothees for the kids. Her 8 year-old daughter complained of dizziness and stomach pains, which prompted the mother to taste the smoothee, only to discover the strong taste of tequila.

The mother quickly alerted on-site management, who called the fire department and EMTs to come check out the children. The children did not medical treatment and were not taken to a hospital.  Reports indicate the drinks were served in kids cups and should have been detected by the server. So far, no charges have been filed.

Chili's released a statement through its ownership comp, Brinker International:

"At Chili's, the health and safety of our guests is of utmost importance. Because it's a top priority, we train our servers and bartenders on responsible alcohol service and hold them accountable to adhering to our policies and procedures. The Longmont Chili's cooperated fully with local authorities in this instance. Additionally, we are conducting our own formal and thorough internal investigation. We take violations of Chili's policies and procedures very seriously, and if warranted, disciplinary action - which can include termination - is taken."
