Contract Worker Injured in Building Collapse at Fort Leavenworth

A contractor worker narrowly survived a near fatal accident caused when a large part of a wall collapsed inside the old disciplinary barracks at the Fort Leavenworth in Kansas last week. The man was rushed to a nearby hospital where he is listed as being in stable condition. His injuries are not expected to be life threatening.

Reports from the scene indicate that when rescue workers got to the scene, all that was visible of the worker was his head, the rest of him covered by bricks, mortar and wet cement. He was trapped for nearly two hours.

The Army Corps of Engineers is expected to conduct a full investigation to determine what caused the 124 year old building to collapse.
