Does Your Kansas City Child Need a Rear-Facing Safety Seat?

Posted on Sep 21, 2010

If your doctor recommended something to protect your child, would you do it?  Doctors across the nation are urging parents to start placing children under the age of 2 in rear-facing safety seats.

After much controversy on the actual versus the perceived safety of the rear-facing safety seat, researchers from the U.S. government have come up with statistics that supports a definitive answer.

Many have been skeptical towards rear-facing safety seats.  This is because many have assumed that a rear-facing seat may increase the risk of injury to a child’s legs due to the close proximity of the back of car’s seat.  However, research is showing that this is not the case.  In fact, the risk of injury to the legs decreases when the child is placed in a rear-facing safety seat.  In addition, the risk of injury to a child’s pelvis, neck, head, and back will also decrease substantially if the child is placed in a rear-facing seat.

While those findings dispel the myths about rear-facing safety seats, we really want to point out that these rear-facing safety seats can actually increase your child’s chance of survival, and not just by a menial percent.  No, if your child was involved in a car accident, you could increase their chance of survival by 75%!  This makes the rear-facing safety seat five times safer than the forward-facing one.

Not all children need rear-facing safety seats, but if your child is 24 months or younger or is below the average height and weight requirements for a two-year-old, it is in your child’s best interest to place them in a rear-facing safety seat.

The problem is that the word still has not spread.  We hope that you will share this article with friends and take the necessary steps to protect your child in case of a car accident situation.

If you believe that a child you love has been injured and is owed justice and compensation, we urge you to call the Kansas City Child Injury and Accident Lawyers of Kansas City Accident Injury Attorneys right away.  With over fifteen years of experience, we are well-prepared to take on your case.
