Drunk Driver Causes Multi-Vehicle Accident that Crashes MTA Bus into McDonald's

A three vehicle accident that caused a MTA Long Island bus to crash into a McDonald's in Uniondale, NY was apparently caused by a drunk driver. The alcohol related multi-vehicle crash happened on July 24, 2011 when 42 year-old Richard Santiago crashed into a two vehicles, including the bus.

The collision forced the the bus into the side wall of a McDonald's Restaurant. There were no passengers aboard the bus at the time of the crash and no one inside the McDonald's was injured.

However, the driver of the bus, a 51 year-old man; and the 27 year-old driver of the second vehicle were hospitalized with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Santiago, who suffered a serious head injury was hospitalized as well, according to police. He has been charged driving while intoxicated, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended registration and driving an uninsured motor vehicle.
