Elderly Woman Killed When Train Strikes Car

Kansas City, Missouri was the scene of a deadly accident that took place at approximately 7:30 a.m. Tuesday morning at 135th Street and Holmes Road. 

Witnesses reported that an elderly woman driving westbound was hit by a northbound train at the crossing.  The gates were down, but the woman tried to go around the gates.  One observer, Patrice Burgess, stated that "It looked like from where I was sitting, she cleared the tracks, went back, and put her brakes on when she was in the middle of the tracks."

Police have not determined exactly what caused the victim to place her car on the tracks, but police say there are a number of reasons that could have caused that action, including suicide.
