Fatal California motorcycle crash caused by hit and run driver

In mid-November, five motorcyclists were killed in a tragic accident in Ocotillo, California when a motorist triggered the crash by attempting to pass a pack of motorcycles in the westbound lane of a two lane highway.  According to reports, the accident happened on Route 98, a two lane highway near San Diego, when the driver of a Honda went to pass and nearly collided with a Dodge traveling westbound.  The driver of the Dodge swerved to avoid a head on collision and lost control of the vehicle, eventually crashing into the traveling motorcycle club, which contained as many as twenty motorcycles.

Five people were killed in the crash.  Another six were hospitalized with serious injuries.  The driver of the Honda did not stop when the accident occured.  Police are following leads to track downt he suspect.
