Fatal semi-truck-train accident has attention of Kansas and Missouri truckers

A horrific accident involving a semi tractor-trailer truck and an Amtrak passenger train in New York claimed the life of a 51 year-old truck driver.  The fatal trucking accident happened on January 12, 2011 on Middle Road near Dunkirk, NY.  The truck driver, Randolph Todd of Shepard, Texas, was killed in the violent collision.  Witnesses say the truck was trying to go around the lowered crossing gates in an attempt to beat the approaching train.  The truck was transporting chickens to the Purina Plant in Dunkirk.

The passenger train, which was en route from Chicago to New York, was carrying 236 passengers and 16 crew members.  There were no injuries reported from the train.
