Fatal trucking accident in Florida caused by street racers

An investigation into a fatal crash in Florida involving a semi-truck and mulitiple other vehicles will determine if it was caused by an attempted illegal street race.  On December 9, 2010 a semi-truck collided with two vehicles parked side by side on U.S. 27 in Broward, County, Florida.  Officials of the Florida Highway Patrol said the truck rear-ended an Acura Integra and a Honda Civic in the northbound lanes.  The driver attempted to avoid the collision but was unable to.

Both drivers were seriously injured in the crash along with a passenger and were taken to a local hospital for treatment.  Unfortunately, two other passengers in the cars, a 19 year-old and a 15 year-old, were killed in the crash.  A passenger in the semi-truck suffered minor injuries but the driver himself did not suffer any reported injury.

Police believe the cars that caused the crash were lining up to take part in an illegal street race.
