Florida Care Center Death a Kansas City Concern

A Stuart, Florida woman is suing a residential treatment facitilty for allegedly causing the death of her mother.  New Horizons of the Treasure Coast, the residential treatment facility in question, left a patient unattended for nearly an hour in a locked bathroom.  The patient, Sharon Bronowicz, drowned.

Bronowicz suffered from bi-polar disorder and suicidal thoughts and had voluntarily checked into the Port Lucie Hospital Behavioral Health Center in September.  After her evaluation there by psychiatric professionals, she was involuntarily moved to the New Horizons facility two months later.  According to the attorney on the case, the patient was often found on the floor of her room crying and asking for a hug and some help. 

The suit claims that the employees and staff at New Horizons knew of her emotional and mental state and were negligent in leaving her unattended for such a long period of time.  The CEO of New Horizons commented that their side of the story would come out in court. 

The initial findings of the treatment center ruled the death as a suicide.  Sadly, Bronowicz was scheduled to be released from the treatment center just two weeks after the date of her death.
