A female employee of the APM Terminals in Portsmouth, VA. was killed in a work related accident when she was struck by a fork lift while working as a slinger for a crane operator.
A "slinger" is a guide for a crane operator. The 38 year-old woman was standing on a dock, guiding a crane operator with a hand held radio when a fork lift approached. Apparently the fork lift operator was unable to see the woman and hit her. She suffered massive injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead.
OSHA and the Virgina Police are investigating the work related accident fatality.
