Heart Failure Risks Surrounding Meridia Has KC Doctors Attention

The diet pill Meridia has fallen under close scrutiny lately because it is believed to cause non-fatal heart attacks and possibly lead to congestive heart disease.  Meridia, which is supposed to help people lose weight, has been known to increase blood pressure as a side affect.  Now, a recently released report, known as the SCOUT report is suggesting that the pill may cause heart attacks and strokes. 

Between 2002 and 2009 there have been at least 17 reported deaths to heart failure by patients who had used Meridia.  Most of these victims are young people who had no known heart problems before taking the drug.  Because of the problems Meridia has had over the years, doctors have already backed away from prescribing the pill.
