In early November a 29 year-old UMKC student was a victim of a hit-and-run near Rockhill Road and Emanuel Cleaver II Boulevard in Kansas City. Micah Jacobsen was riding his bike across the street when he was hit by a brown sedan. He rolled over the hood of the car and then fell to the ground, injuring his lower back.
The woman took the time to stop and tell Jacobsen that she didn't see him and that the light was green. Then she got back into her car and sped away without exchanging insurance information or waiting for the police.
A bruised and battered Jacobsen was taken to the hospital, put on pain medication and released later that night. His band, Capture the Flag, had to cancel a show in Kansas City the next day because he was in too much pain to stand and play.
Navigating the streets in Kansas City is dangerous enough in a car. Those on a bicycle are at a lot more risk of being injured; taking proper safety precautions when riding your bike is always important.
