Citizens of Kansas City are now mourning the loss of two young boys aged 14 and 15 who drowned in a swimming pool on July 14th.
These boys were members of Kansas City's First International Baptist Church. Both were exceptionally dedicated to their faith and talented athletes. It was a combination of these two interests that brought them to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Camp in Pella, Iowa.
Although it is not clear at this time, we do know that there bodies were found in a community swimming pool near the diving boards. Their bodies were unattended when found, and allegedly, the boys had been left behind with no known safety officials on duty.
Tears were falling everywhere at their funeral service which was given by the youth pastor of the two boys. The boys are remembered as being outstanding individuals. The older boy was remembered for being especially kind towards the younger children. And the fourteen-year-old boy could not speak English exceptionally well, but he is remembered as being a very open-hearted individual. This throws an especially tragic twist into this story. The two boys had actually become friends after the younger boy and his mother were forced to abandon their home in Haiti after the earthquake crisis and take up new residence in Kansas City, MO.
These children should not have been left alone. Especially since the parents of both of these children had signed waivers prior to the camp. The waivers stated that the children were incapable of swimming. Unfortunately, these waivers were overlooked on the day these children were sent to the pool. Eventually, another boy at the camp noticed that the two boys were missing.
The Kansas City-based Child Injury and Accident Lawyers of Kansas City Accident Injury Attorneys want to express our deepest sympathies to the families of these drowning accident victims. This situation may have been prevented if those waivers had been taken into account before these children were allowed to swim. If you believe that a child you love has suffered at the hands of a reckless or negligent adult, we urge you to give our law offices a call. With over 15 years of experience in our field, we are more than prepared to take on your case.
