Kansas City using flashing stop signs to warn distracted drivers

Kansas City, Missouri is among several cities all over the country that is currently testing out a new flashing stop light traffic system.  The lights are similar to traditional stop signs except for eight flashing red lights positioned all over the octagon.  The hope is that the flashing red lights, get the attention of distracted drivers at typically bad intersections for stop sign running.

The solar powered flashing stop signs are at 18th and McGee streets, Swope Parkway and Meyer Boulevard, and 51st and Oak streets in Kansas City, Missouri.
