If Kansas lawmakers have their way, motorists considering drinking and driving may not have a choice. Lawmakers are pushing for a law that would make sure that every person caught driving under the influence will have to get an interlock device on their car.
The interlock device requires the driver to pass a sobriety test before the car keys work. If the user has been drinking, the car won't start. If this sounds familiar, second time offenders are already required to get the device, but eleven states currently require them for someone after they've caught the first time.
Russell Campillo, who owns Evergreen Ignition Interlock thinks the new law could cause people to get one installed even if they haven't been charged with a DUI.
"They may get stuck in the parking lot, but those are miles that they're not driving drunk and taking the chance of running into somebody or killing themselves or somebody else," Campillo said.
