KC Drivers Stay Awake: State Trooper Injured in Kentucky Auto Accident

A fatal car accident in Kentucky killed one person and sent at least three other people to the hospital with serious but non life threatening injuries.  The accident happened on February 16, 2011 on U.S. 52 in Madison County, KY.  According to members of the Kentucky Highway Patrol, the accident was caused when an elderly male driver fell asleep at the wheel of his car and crashed into a Volkswagen Beetle.

The collision sent the Beetle through a guardrail and down into a steep ditch.  The driver of the vehicle had to be extracted fromt he vehicle by emergency crews.

Unfortunately, the elderly driver was killed in the crash.  His female passenger suffered injuries and was hospitalized.  A Kentucky State Trooper who was already on site, was injured when a vehicle rolled over his legs.  He was also rushed to a hosptital.
