Early Friday morning, a 13-year old boy heading into Eisenhower Middle School was struck by a red pickup truck at 72nd Street and Leavenworth Road. Police reported the boy was riding on a bus that stopped at 72nd and Leavenworth to off-load passengers. The boy stepped from behind the bus to cross the street when he was hit by the pickup truck that was traveling eastbound on Leavenworth Road. The driver of the pickup truck stayed at the scene and was fully cooperative with police officials. The driver of the bus was also interviewed at the scene.
A Kansas City, Kansas fire department was called to the scene, but as the pumper truck was headed to the boy's location, the pumper truck was also involved in an accident at 75th Street and Leavenworth Road. The truck hit a vehicle which reportedly did not yield to the emergency vehicles right-of-way. There were no injuries in the pumper truck accident and the fire truck was able to continue onto the scene of the pedestrian accident.
As for the boy, he was taken to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries and was expected to be released on Friday.
