Loose mattress causes multi-vehicle car crash on I-470 in Topeka, KS

A four car car crash on I-470 in Topeka, Kansas was caused when a mattress flew off the back of another moving vehicle.  Five people were taken to local hospitals to receive treatment for serious injury but none were reported as being life threatening.

According to Topeka police, the mattress was not properly tied down.

"There is a law that says you are supposed to keep stuff in the back of your truck tied down, and they failed to have that tied down," said Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper Hillary Taylor.
