Lyon County Fair Proves Fatal for Shawnee Teen

Emporia, Kansas was the scene of a fatal accident involving an area teen over the weekend.  A 17-year-old Shawnee girl was attending the Lyon County Fair when the accident happened.  The teen and her friend were watching a Mud-A-Thon from the back of a pick-up truck when one of the modified vehicles participating in the event went through the guardrail, went airborne and hit the truck where the two teens were sitting.  The modified truck came to a stop just past the pick-up where the teens had been.

The Shawnee teen was pronounced dead at a Wichita hospital.  The other teen was treated and released from a hospital.  According to police the accident is under investigation.
