Man on bicycle killed in car accident in Kansas City

A man riding his bicycle in Kansas City, Mo. was killed when he lost his balance and fell into the path of an oncoming car.  The accident happened around 8:10 on Friday May 21st, 2010 on Independence Ave. off Chestnut Trafficway.  The bicyclist sustained sustantial injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency crews. The driver of the car was not injured.  The crash is still under police investigation although no charges are expected to be filed.

"It's a pretty substantial impact, especially when you consider it's an impact with a person not a car," Sgt. Bill Mahoney at the scene of the accident. "So you can definitely get an idea of just what kind of injuries those would cause."
