Man Seriously Injured in Train Accident in Lee's Summit

Lee's Summit was the scene of a train vs. pick-up truck accident Thursday morning around 8:10.  The accident occurred near Thompson Drive and Hamblen Road when the driver of an F-10 pick-up truck tried to go around the crossing arms at the train crossing.  The truck was hit by an Amtrak train heading to St. Louis. 

According to authorities, the driver of the truck was thrown 30 feet from the pick-up.  He was taken to an area hospital for treatment of serious injuries.  The pick-up, which was cut in half in the accident, was drug by the train another 100 yards down the track.    There were no injuries reported from passengers of the Amtrak train.
