Missour man claims he was drunk-to-stay-warm after DWI accident

Thomas Drummond of Jackson, Missouri was acquitted this week on a DWI charge, the result of a one vehicle accident that happened in February.  Drummond went before a jury pleading his case, claiming he only started drinking after the accident in order to stay warm.  According to defense attorney Stephen Wilson, Drummond had been out with friends and was on his way home when he lost control of his car on the icy winter road and crashed into a culvert under a bridge.  Drummond was stranded for nearly two hours and began drinking in order to keep his body temperature up.
