Missouri construction worker injured on while working on I-71

A Missouri construction worker was clipped by an RV as he was working on a U.S. Highway 71 road construction site.
Forty-six-year-old Ricky L. Williams of Bacyrus, Missouri is employed by Journagan Construction, the company that is resurfacing I-71 in Carthage. The accident occurred around 4:30 p.m. on April 12. Williams was working on the interstate just south of the Fir Road exit when he was sideswiped by a southbound RV.
Williams sustained moderate injuries and was taken to Freeman West Hospital in Joplin for treatment.
The RV was driven by Eugen R. Hoton, 67, of Kansas City.
Road construction is dangerous work. Drivers in Missouri and Kansas are urged to use care when driving in work zones. Last year, five people were killed and 490 injured in Kansas construction zone car accidents. In 2007, there were 835 work zone accident fatalities nationwide. Eighty percent of the victims were motorists rather than construction workers.
