This summer, the Missouri state highway patrol will be cracking down on aggressive drivers using helicopters to keep an eye out for aggressive driving. Police plan to monitor highways from a thousand feet above ground. This will allow them to spot drivers going too fast or following other cars too close or changing lanes improperly.
"Certainly the traffic picks up as the weather gets nicer," said Lt. David Smith with Missouri Highway Patrol. "There's more of a chance to have crashes. We just want to be out there trying to make the roads as safe as possible for everyone."
When violators are spotted, a call is sent from the helicopter to patrol cars below, you can then pursue and pull over the car or motorcycle in question.
"Obviously it helps to have someone in the air, we can spot those violations," Smith said. "And if someone tries to flee from us, it makes it much safer because we can terminate the ground pursuit and follow the vehicle with the aircraft to their destination and then take the subject into custody."
The attorneys of the Kansas City Accident Injury Attorneys hope you practice safe driving while on your summer travels.
