Missouri Motorcycle Deaths Decline in 2009 - Kansas Numbers Increase

Motorcycle deaths in Missouri declined 21 percent in 2009, which mirrors a national trend.  In 2009, eighty-five motorcycle fatalities were reported, a drop from 107 motorcycle fatalities in 2008. 

Unfortunately, Kansas did not have the same trend, with their motorcycle fatalities increasing 11 percent.  Kansas motorcycle deaths during the same time period were 49 deaths in 2009  up from 44 in 2008.

According to the Governors Highway Safety Association, the nationwide numbers for motorcycle deaths are projected to be down about 10 percent.  Reasons given for the nationwide decline:

1. less motorcycle travel due to the economy
2. inclement weather in many parts of the country 
3. Fewer novice motorcyclists on the roads
